AI Animation for Archicad: Turn Renders into Video

Short, photorealistic clips from a single Archicad render — camera moves, model-to-render reveals, and day-to-night — without building a walkthrough.

Why Animation Matters, and Why It's Usually Hard

Movement sells a design. A few seconds of a camera drifting past a facade, or a model dissolving into a finished render, holds attention in a client meeting, on a website, or on social media in a way a still image rarely does.

The traditional route is a walkthrough in a real-time renderer such as Twinmotion, Enscape, or Lumion. These produce excellent results, but they ask for time: exporting or syncing the model, setting up materials, lighting, and entourage, planning a camera path, and rendering frames on a capable GPU. For a quick concept clip, that's often more effort than the moment justifies.

What AI Animation Does Differently

AI video models work from an image rather than a 3D scene. You give them a finished render and describe the motion you want, and they generate a short clip: the camera moves, trees sway, clouds drift, light shifts. There's no camera path to plan and no scene to build.

The trade-off is control. You can't place a camera precisely or walk through every room, and clips are short. AI animation is best treated as a fast way to add motion to the images you already have, not a replacement for a full walkthrough.

Two Ways to Animate an Archicad Render

Bring a single render to life

Start from one image and choose a camera move. In Linespire Animate the options are a slow orbit, push in, pan left or right, dolly forward, aerial rise, or a static shot with only environmental motion. You can also set whether the scene is an interior or exterior and how lively the motion should be, from a gentle breeze to dramatic, cinematic light.

Transition between two images

Start from two images and let the model create the change between them. This is where AI animation is uniquely useful for architects:

  • Model to render: the Archicad view transforms into the photorealistic render, showing the design and the finished result in one clip.
  • Empty to furnished: a bare room fills with furniture and finishes.
  • Day to night: daylight fades to dusk and interior lights come on.
  • Construction to complete: scaffolding gives way to the finished, landscaped building.
  • Season change: foliage and light shift while the building stays constant.

Getting Good Results

  • Start from a strong still. The video can only be as good as the render it starts from. Get the image right first.
  • Choose gentle camera moves for accuracy. Slow orbits and push-ins keep the building closest to the original. Fast or sweeping moves give the model more room to invent detail.
  • Keep it short. Five to eight seconds is usually the sweet spot. Longer clips cost more and drift more.
  • Use transitions for storytelling. A model-to-render or day-to-night clip explains a design faster than a series of stills.
  • Check before you share. As with any AI output, review the clip for details that have changed before it goes to a client.

Cost and Time

In Linespire Reflect, Animate uses the same credits as renders: about one credit per second of video at standard quality. Higher resolution and sound cost more, and the add-on shows the exact cost before you generate. Most clips are ready in a few minutes, and you can keep working while they process.

When to Use a Traditional Walkthrough Instead

If you need a long, precisely choreographed walkthrough, a specific route through a building, or frame-accurate control over every material and light, a real-time renderer is still the right tool. AI animation shines for short, high-impact clips made in minutes from renders you already have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Archicad make animations on its own?

Archicad can export fly-through animations from its own 3D engine, and real-time renderers such as Twinmotion, Enscape, and Lumion can produce walkthroughs. AI animation is different: it turns a single render into a short, photorealistic clip without setting up a camera path or scene.

How long can an AI animation be?

With Linespire Animate, clips are 3 to 15 seconds long. AI video works best for short, focused shots rather than full walkthroughs.

Will the building change shape in the video?

AI video models can drift on fine detail, especially with fast camera moves or long clips. Gentle moves such as a slow orbit or push-in, and shorter durations, keep the building closest to the original render.

How much does an AI animation cost with Linespire Reflect?

About one credit per second of video at standard quality, so a 5-second clip costs about 5 credits. Higher resolution and sound cost more, and the exact cost is shown before you generate.
